It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference on Plant Science & Molecular Biology (IPMB-2026) in Paris.

This is an exciting time for plant science. Our field continues to make remarkable advances in understanding plant growth, development, signaling, adaptation, and interactions with the environment. At the same time, the questions we ask—and the potential impact of our discoveries are expanding well beyond the traditional boundaries of plant biology.

As we face interconnected challenges in food security, environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and human health, plant science has an increasingly important role to play. Plants are not only the foundation of our agricultural and ecological systems, they are also powerful experimental systems for understanding fundamental biological processes and translating scientific discovery into solutions that can benefit both people and the planet.

Scientific meetings such as IPMB-2026 provide an important opportunity to bring together researchers from different disciplines, institutions, and parts of the world. I hope our discussions in Paris will encourage us to exchange ideas openly, establish new collaborations, challenge established perspectives, and ask questions that take our science in unexpected directions. Some of the most meaningful advances in science begin when we look beyond the immediate application of our work and recognize connections across disciplines.

I look forward to sharing some of these ideas in my keynote, “Beyond Yield: Why the Next Breakthrough in Human Health May Begin with a Plant,” and, equally importantly, to learning from the many perspectives represented at this conference.
